Bringing the Imagination Library to Waltham
We're a group of Waltham volunteers launching a local chapter of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Our goal is simple: every child in Waltham, from birth to age five, gets a free book in the mail every month.
We serve families in every Waltham ZIP code: 02451, 02452, 02453 and 02454.
About Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
Dolly Parton started the Imagination Library in 1995 in Sevier County, Tennessee, where she grew up. She was inspired by her father, who never had the chance to learn to read. The program has since grown to communities across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia.
The national program is run by The Dollywood Foundation, which works with local affiliates like us. The foundation chooses the books and negotiates the prices, and the books are mailed from a central operation. Each local affiliate enrolls families and raises the money to pay for its community's books.
Our fiscal sponsor
We're finalizing a partnership with a local nonprofit to serve as our fiscal sponsor, so that donations are tax-deductible. We'll share the details here soon.
